Putting myself out of my comfort zone for this one, not only is this a foreign language movie, which I've only just started to discover but it is also black and white, which is something I rarely dive into. Seven Samurai seemed like an important movie to watch considering it has influenced some of the biggest names in film today.

Directed by Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai is a spaghetti western of sorts, this movie starts off pretty slow but really builds the story up to bring you naturally to the end. Characters within this film don't seem to stop moving, they literally run everywhere, but this pays homage to how fast paced this movie is, with a run time of 207 minutes the viewing experience flies by.
You'd of thought the action would be the main focus of this movie,, really this was about society and the values they hold so dear. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of action shots within this, and they are expertly shot, but the underlying message really is clear throughout.
This is not something i'd call an easy viewing, you have to want to sit down and focus, but with such a big relevance to film work in today's world, it really is a must watch. This tested me, it is thought provoking and I wasn't sure what to think at first, but for a film that is nearly 70 years old, it really is a timeless piece of film-making.
