Lady Terror

Lady Terror is an independent feature from Australian filmmaker Nathan Hill and is an erotic tale of lust and vengeance, as a clean-cut lawyer falls in love with a manipulating murderer, changing his life forever.

Synopsis

The film follows Jake Large, a lawyer in the middle of stale engagement, who becomes embroiled in a murder plot by a seductive stranger. The film opens with a mugging gone wrong, where our protagonists meet for the first time. With thunder, lightning and creepy music, it’s an intriguing start.

Review

It doesn’t take long for the erotica to come into the film with a sexy dance that is cue for a rather steamy affair. Jake clearly falls for Candice, unaware of her dangerous ulterior motives.

The film is relatively well-shot. There are some shots and sequences that aren’t needed as they add nothing to the scene/story. There is one diabolical fight scene between two female characters toward the end, which was absurd rather than action-packed.

However, there’s some nice stylised shots, both aerial and landscapes, a fancy car racing scene and some very realistic sex scenes to keep audiences watching through the respectable runtime of 79 minutes.

Lady Terror

Whilst the plot is entertaining, the film is missing a clear genre. Is it a black comedy, is it a thriller, is it a romantic-drama? The film should have picked one and gone hard.

Whilst there’s sex and violence, there’s not enough. There’s too much talking and not enough action. Through intimate scenes the two leads are able to flex some acting muscles and are convincing in their roles. But the character development isn’t strong - nothing is driving these characters enough to keep the viewers invested.

Towards the end the twist is that our Lady Terror isn’t a nice person after-all. She’s been using Jake in order to help her kill her stepfather, so she can run away with her girlfriend with her conscience and hands clean. Jake’s business partner turned PI tells Jake the truth and helps him steal her money. After confronting her, Jake drives off into the distance, with many gold bars, to start a new life. Crime really does pay. A simple predictable ending, but nonetheless satisfying.

Lady Terror is entertaining, and is one to watch if you’re looking for a slightly cheesy crime-drama film.
