House of the Dragon

The highly anticipated second season of the Game of Thrones spin-off is finally upon us, and many have been looking forward to the return to Westeros in amongst the trials and tribulations of the two houses, Which side will you choose? Episode 1 is available now on Sky Atlantic/HBO, titled 'A Son for a Son'.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Synopsis

While Rhaenyra mourns her son Lucerys' death, Daemon wishes to strike back. Myseria, still alive, arrives on Dragonstone and meets Daemon. He considers having Rhaenys and her dragon help kill the Greens' dragon Vhagar, but instead sneaks into King's Landing and bribes a ratcatcher and a guard to kill Aemond. Instead, they hold Helaena hostage and kill her son Jaehaerys. Meanwhile, Alicent carries on a secret affair with Criston, and the Velaryons blockade the Gullet.

Review

After the shocking ending to the previous season, you could expect Season 2 to kick of with a bang. However, this episode eases us back into this world gently, bringing in the politics between the families and what their next moves will be.

This does get disrupted however by the more bullish tactics of Daemon, who takes it upon himself to seek out revenge for the death of Lucerys at the hands of Aemond. In a scene that can only be described as unimaginable, the event that occurs is shocking to say the least and is about to turn Westeros upside down... maybe more so than Lucerys' death.

House of the Dragon

Rhaenyra isn't much of a presence as she seeks answers for the death of Lucerys, and is missed as a cornerstone for her family and quite frankly for the series itself. And Alicent is living life dangerously, while trying to gain control of her newly crowned king son.

Episode One doesn't disappoint as a teaser back into this world, however those wishing for fire and blood in response to the Season one finale may have to be patient as the political battle commences between these houses. The final scene may change the pace...
