'Dear Santa' Season 2 Review: What Does the Spirit of Christmas Mean to You?

Dear Santa
By Romey Norton - November 13, 2024

The family-oriented docu-series Dear Santa is back by popular demand. This heart-warming series takes audiences on an inspiring holiday journey as children across America write letters to Santa. Dear Santa is set to return to Hulu on Nov. 29 and ABC-owned television Stations on Nov. 24 for its second season. You can’t watch this show without a big stupid smile on your face. My face hurt after I was smiling so much watching the whole series in one sitting.

Traverse32 and Sweet World Films are behind the docuseries, which first premiered in 2022. It follows the U.S. Postal Service’s USPS Operation Santa program, which has been running for over a century.

Dear Santa

This series truly brings the magic of Christmas to life, as kind-hearted people become elves to make children's wishes come true. There are five episodes to enjoy, taking you through cities including New York City, Atlanta, Denver, Oklahoma, and Richmond, Va.

Episodes cover a little boy obsessed with trains, a little female rocker with the dream of owning a sparkly drum set, siblings whose dad is deployed overseas, a girl who wants magic to keep her room clean and a pet goldfish and one child who wants to see a play with his father who has been battling cancer and several selfless children who only ask that Santa bring gifts for others.

The episodes are short, at under twenty-five minutes, and shot like a documentary which helps the series feel authentic and not staged. The shots are colourful, engaging, and in many different locations. These include the children's homes with their families, the postal service rooms, shops, workshops, theatres and more.

This series will make you look at the bigger picture and think about what does the spirit of Christmas mean to you? Is it about giving back, family, friends, or helping people in need at this special time of year where people can feel so alone.

Dear Santa

We look at the elves, their roles in Operation Santa, and why they help. Their stories are honest and inspiring, and everyone comes across as kind, energetic,

thoughtful and has that passion and drive to keep that spirit of Christmas alive.

The children involved are incredibly cute - there are some funny moments such as when a child says “my mum wants more sleep for Christmas”. One girl called Harmony confesses she has a little attitude with her teachers, but tries hard to be good. Her letter is asking for a present for her guardian, and is incredibly heart-warming. My favourite story is about Robert, who takes his father to see a play- it is very emotional. The play is of course A Christmas Carol - helping add that festive cheer. Robert and his dad have a small part in the play which was a lovely touch.

Overall Dear Santa is a series that hits the sweet spot. Filled with joy, happiness, and positivity, this series will put you in the Christmas spirit and should inspire you to help people in your local community - why not become an Elf and help in future Operation Santa projects.
