Chinatown
“Forget it, Jake.  It’s Chinatown.”

An absolute instant classic, Chinatown originally released on June 26, 1974. An instant hit starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway it went on to receive 11 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and boasts a 98% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Paramount have marked the occasion with a Limited-Edition 4K Ultra HD, which is available to own now, and thanks to Substance Global we've managed to get our hands on a copy.

This 50th Anniversary collectors edition includes not only a Blu-ray disc but for the first time Chinatown has been digitally restored on a 4K Ultra HD disc. The exacting restoration was completed using the original camera negative, which was repaired using the latest technology in areas that had been previously damaged. The discs themselves are held in a standard 4K black case, that is presented with clean artwork of Nicholson and Dunaway. The whole collectors edition is then housed in a rigid board slipcase.

With this edition comes a whole lot of special features including exclusive new content "A State Of Mind: Author Sam Wasson On Chinatown". Other special features include; Commentary by screenwriter Robert towne with David Fincher, Chinatown Memories, Chinatown: Filming, Chinatown: Legacy and plenty more for fans to sink their teeth into.

In addition to all of this, there are some extra goodies for fans of the film. Firstly, we have a decent sized theatrical film poster, which would look great framed on any film fans wall. A couple of little extras come in the form of; a "J.J Gittes" Business card, a 'Farmland SOLD' art card and a 'Save Our City' reproduction flyer, all of which are great little touches to this collection. Lastly, there is 6 'art cards' of various moments in Chinatown, all of which are glossed over to make them really pop. However, it doesn't end there as on the reverse side the cards, when put together, form into a map of 'Chinatown' itself, which is a fun touch.

This Chinatown 50th Anniversary Collectors Edition is a must have for any physical media collectors and/or fans of this classic movie. The film now in 4K looks better than ever before, and all the little extras that come with this Collectors Edition all add something special.
