A little confusing at the start, this film begins with a blank screen with just a murmur of sound in the background, this is a powerful opening, the depth of space clear to see. Throughout you have this iconic soundtrack to accompany each scene, instantly recognisable, even if you haven't seen the film you'll know the music.

Visually impressive, 2001 really feels like it could've been from the last 20 years. Each scene has aged well considering this is over 50 years old, a film way ahead of it's time in the visual aspect. From the ships to the on planet scenes, this was stunning and mesmerising to watch.
Due to the focus on the visual side, it felt like the story-line suffered along the way. There didn't seem to be much substance to the story at all and just went from one scene to the next with no real flow. It manages to pick up a little around half way only to fall back off the cliff and go down this weird 'Interstellar' type route.
Clear to see how this has stood the test of time, visually it is so far ahead of everything, Kubricks vision is something to be admired. But it fell short on the story going for more style over substance.
